Two exciting new events!

March 14th, 2011

Although Mortal Folly doesn’t have a production running currently, check out these two upcoming events that feature Mortal Folly company members:

A Festival of Fools, a wonderful company here in New York, is performing Downfalls: Shakespearean Shorts of Doom! on Saturday April 19th.

Among the exciting Shakespeare highlights will be a scene from Winter’s Tale, directed by MFT Artistic Director Katherine Harte-DeCoux and featuring company members Nathan DeCoux, Laura King, Stacey Mandeville and Matthew Rini.

There’s also a wine and cheese reception after the show, so come on out!  Good food, great acting, and DOOM!  What’s not to like?

Then in April, come out for the biggest Shakespeare birthday party this side of the Atlantic!  Willful Pictures presents the Shakespeare’s Birthday Sonnet Slam in Central Park, NYC!  All 154 sonnets will be read, FREE, in one of New York City’s most picturesque public landmarks.  Mortal Folly will be presenting sonnets 81-90.  Come out early, pack a picnic lunch, and bask in the beauty of the Bard!

See you soon!

First Reviews are in!

December 8th, 2010

…and the critics and audiences agree, Macbeth is the show to see!  Here are some excerpts from both critics and audience reviews:

Mortal Folly does it again with their sophomore production, a fairly faithful adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. After the success of A Midsummer Night’s Dream earlier this year (one of the best productions I’ve ever seen of Midsummer), Mortal Folly chose to follow it up with one of Shakespeare’s darker dramas…It’s easy to chalk off this play as an overdone melodrama about a weak-willed man pushed into making bad choices by an over-grasping wife, but the tweaks made in this adaptation bring moments to the surface that illuminate the story in a completely new way. Rather than rolling in his grave, I suspect Mr. Shakespeare would rather claw his way up to applaud the choices made here,”  — Mortal Folly’s Macbeth is Bloody Bold and Resolute, Theatre Knights & Daze

Mortal Folly Theatre, a company just over an year old, presents a highly polished Macbeth as its second ever production…[they] give us a production that is no less enjoyable for its faithfulness to the original text and is greatly strengthened by excellent production values and a few chilling performances…Despite being just over two and a half hours long, Macbeth never feels too long, which is an equal testament to the original playwright and its current presenters…Due to its fidelity, this would be a terrific production for anyone new to the play to see, but it wouldn’t bore anyone who is already familiar with the material. I am very much looking forward to seeing where this company goes next.”  — Di Jayawickrema, nytheatre.com

“That was SPECTACULAR!!!” — Denise Rini, mother of actor Matthew Rini (Macbeth)

There’s still two weeks left to see what everybody’s talking about, including two nights of Half-Price Macbeth on the 8th and 15th, so get your tickets now!
